Our Annual January Rosary Novena to Start on January 24th



 


This post will be one of our repeating posts......every January we offer up a Rosary novena for our spouses.....and any other intentions.  Everything below the ****** will be the copy from last year's post announcing the novena.  We would love for you to join us....or at least to allow us to pray for your intentions.  Please leave a note in the comments so we can pray for you.

The "54-day Rosary Novena" is an uninterrupted series of Rosaries in honor of
Our Lady, revealed to the incurably sick Fortuna Agrelli by Our Lady of Pompeii
at Naples in 1884. For thirteen months Fortuna Agrelli had endured dreadful
sufferings and torturous cramps; she had been given up by the most celebrated
physicians. On February 16, 1884, the afflicted girl and her relatives commenced
a novena of Rosaries. The Queen of the Holy Rosary favoured her with an
apparition on March 3rd. Mary, sitting upon a high throne, surrounded by
luminous figures, held the divine Child on her lap, and in her hand a Rosary.
The Virgin Mother and the holy Infant were clad in gold-embroidered garments.
They were accompanied by St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena. The throne was
profusely decorated with flowers; the beauty of Our Lady was marvellous. Blessed
Virgin said: "Child, thou has invoked me by various titles and hast always
obtained favours from me. Now, since thou hast called me by that title so
pleasing to me, 'Queen of the Holy Rosary,' I can no longer refuse the favour
thou dost petition; for this name is most precious and dear to me. Make three
novenas, and thou shalt obtain all."

Once more the Queen of the Holy Rosary appeared to her and said, " Whoever
desires to obtain favours from me should make three novenas of the prayers of
the Rosary, and three novenas in thanksgiving."

The Novena consists of five decades of the Rosary each day for twenty-seven days
in petition; then immediately five decades each day for twenty-seven days in
thanksgiving, whether or not the request has been granted. The meditations vary
from day to day. On the first day meditate on the Joyful Mysteries; on the
second day the Sorrowful Mysteries; on the third day the Glorious Mysteries; on
the fourth day meditate again on the Joyful Mysteries; and so on throughout the
fifty-four days.

For those of you in unhappy marriages, or feeling desperate.......perhaps
for a conversion of a dh....or for a wayward child........this is a VERY efficacious prayer................the graces just abound! Many times in ways you might least expect it. Keep in mind that many people I know sometimes feel like things get worse when they start the Rosary novena....before they get better......we think it must be the Devil wanting to interfere with our prayers!

We will offer it up for all of those on the happyisthehusband list, those reading this blog and others we know, for our vocations, our husbands and our marriages...............and our offspring!!

I know that many often feel bad if they forget to pray their rosary once starting the novena................here are my thoughts:

Just ask for the graces to remember to pray it every day...................the grace to pick yourself up and just join in when you DO remember. I ask my guardian angel to pray it with me, to remind
me........and, to pray it for me, if I should forget. And, if you do forget, those of us who do remember, have you covered......just jump back in! If I only forget one day, I sometimes try to make it up over the next day or so.

There are graces available to you from every rosary you DO say.....it is so worth it.

     You can use an audio version of the rosary to help keep you focused. I have downloaded these from The Rosary Army to listen to on my iPhone. You can listen on your computer, your iPod or save to a CD. I use it when I work or drive if it looks like I will have trouble finding a time to stop and pray at home.

Here are a couple of prayers that seem to have to do with relationships

Prayer of Spouses for Each Other

Lord Jesus, grant that I and my spouse may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony. May we always bear with one another's weaknesses and grow from each other's strengths. Help us to forgive one another's failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness and the spirit of placing the well-being of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each passing year. Bring us both ever closer to You through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection. Amen.

Rosary Novena Reminder

Just a quick reminder!

The summer Rosary Novena begins today, August 14!

I found this short homily by Albino Luciano, future Pope John Paul I, on The Rosary helps us to be like children.  

Personally when I speak tête-à-tête with God or with the Blessed Virgin Mary, more than an adult I prefer to think of myself as a child. The mitre, skullcap and ring disappear; I give a holiday to the adult and the bishop and also to heavy burdens, sober and pondered, and let myself go with the spontaneous tenderness of a child in front of his papá or mamma. To be – at least for half an hour – before God as I truly am with my wretchedness and also with the best of myself: to feel rising from the depths of my being the child of other days who wants to talk and chat with the Lord and love him and who sometimes feels the need to cry that he may be granted mercy, all this helps me to pray. The rosary, a simple and easy prayer, helps me to be at times a child again and of this I am not in the least ashamed.

The rosary a prayer of repetition ? Père de Foucauld used to say : "Love is expressed in a few words, always the same, repeated time and time again "

Our Annual Summer Rosary Novena

Every year, on the email list Happy is the Husband, a private email list for Catholic wives, we lead two Rosary Novenas for our husbands and any other prayer intentions that we have.......

The first Rosary Novena of the year begins in late January, purposely ending on the vigil of St. Joseph's feast Day. 

The second Rosary Novena of the year, begins this coming week, on August 14th.  The intentional starting date leads us to the end of the novena just in time for the feast of the Holy Rosary in October.

The intentions are always for our husbands first....and any other special intentions.

     There are automatic daily reminders on Happy is the Husband email list.  It would be too much to place those reminders on the blog. Join the list now to get those reminders.

Please guide our husbands to be the true, Godly leader that you want them to become.  So many families today are in crisis, a problem that may well be solved by men taking their rightful role as the leader of their family. Please help them to be good examples to their children, especially their sons.

And, God, please help us, as their wives, to allow our husbands to lead.......to provide encouragement, to avoid thwarting their initiatives, to make room for our men to bloom as the leaders they were meant to be.

Please help us to remember to pray daily to the Holy Ghost for guidance for our husbands to lead throughout their day.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we entrust our family to You. Look down upon us and reveal to us the treasures of love, goodness, and grace in Your Heart. Forgive our sins and fortify our weakness, that we may serve You faithfully as You deserve. These favors we ask for ourselves and for every family in our neighborhood and homeland. Heart of Jesus, pierced by a soldier's lance on Calvary, be our refuge in life and our gateway to Paradise. Amen.

Remember, O most kind Jesus, that none who have had recourse to Your Sacred Heart, implored Its assistance, or called for mercy, have ever been abandoned. Happy is the Husband.......the Joy of Serving, For the Month of June

While I was looking for a specific post at the Happyisthehusband Yahoo group, I came across this email post from June of 2006:

A Growing Marriage - May 12, 2006 - The Joy of Serving


Dr. Chapman makes this quote in one of his emails this month:

"Service is a mark of greatness.

Why not apply this truth to your marriage?

Ask God to bring to your mind,

one act of service you can do for your spouse each day.

Then, do it as though you were doing it for Jesus.

You will learn the joy of service. "

It made me think about something........


What do you all think about using the month of June, to do one act of service each day for our spouse, in honor of the month of the Sacred Heart? We could offer it up in reparation to the Sacred heart for all of the sins against marriage. And, especially for any special intentions for our own marriage.

Some of us could list what we do..............just a few each day, it might inspire the others.


Even if it were something we were going to do anyway, like iron his work shirts, we could do it with a prayerful purpose in mind.



I don't remember sending this post, what, SIX?? years ago???  But, I was thrilled to find it.

It is such a clever idea.  :)  I really think I need a focus like that right now.  I have already started.....I am chipping away at hot spots.

The hope chest in my room has been cleared off for days. 

Got two cupboards in my kitchen reduced and organized.  Everything fits now! 

My own spouse likes everything decluttered and efficient.  The poor guy married me, an excellent organizer, but not the best manager.  My plan is to make headway in clearing out clutter....even if it is fifteen minutes at a time. 


I have a bunch of "hand-me-down" stuff on my porch.....I think I will try to get at least one thing put away each day.  That will be a good start.  I will offer it up for him.


Another way to approach this:  ask your husband each morning, or the evening before, what one thing he would like for you to do for him this day.  My friend has recently placed a white board and has told her husband, if it is not written down on the board....she will not remember to get it done.  Since implementing the white board, she says after he leaves for work, the family takes care of that one task first thing in the order of their day.   He is a much more satsified man.  She appreciates that.

Please help our husbands to thrive in their relationships with their offspring,
both current and future. Help them to remember that kids are just kids
sometimes. And help them to remember to be "kids" themselves sometimes.

Help the children to know and feel loved by their fathers.

Help our husbands to understand child development.

Help our husbands to model Godly behavior for their children.

Help our husbands to bring their children to God through His Church.

Help our husbands to take time to hang out with their kids.

April: Pray for our husbands' emotional health.......and ours, too, under the patronage of the Holy Eurcharist as well as Saint Dymphna

Dear God, Please protect our husbands' emotional health.  These modern days seem to be so heavy with strife that is difficult to carry. Please guard our spouses from negative thoughts, depression, despair.  Please keep them from losing the hope they need to care for their marriages, their families and to stay on the road to finally come home to you.  Please heal them from past hurts. Let Your peace fill their hearts. Let them carry themselves in your strength and spirit.


Please help us, as their wives, to do and say what is needed to encourage them.  Please protect our emotional health as well, especially as we deal with the frequent hormonal shifts in all the seasons of our life.

We beg for these intentions, in honor of the Holy Eucharist.

March: Pray for Our Husbands' Employment Situations

In January, I introduced the idea of praying themes for a year of praying for our husbands. Today I bring the theme of March to you.......

March: Pray for our husbands' employment situations, and for his finances.......and our own, under the patronage of Saint Joseph.

We beg for these intentions, in honor of Saint Joseph.


Our dear husbands have so much weight on their shoulders. They are called to be providers for their families. This is a huge responsibility, and often a huge cross. For those out of work, the cross must be often too heavy to carry. Let us ask our Dear Lord, to help them to shoulder the weight, and to help them to find a job....the perfect job for them, to support their families and to save their souls.

For those that are employed, they are often unhappy, underappreciated, and exposed to the horrors of the world. Let us pray for them, to find appreciation in God's eyes, and to fight the temptations of the world that are thrown at them in the work environment. Let us remember to frequently remind them of how grateful we are for all they do for us, their family. Let us try to meet their needs when they return home to their domestic church, where they can find a happy and holy haven in this respite from the world. Remind their children to pray frequently for their father, usually away from them all the day. If you have not already instituted a daily prayer for the father who is away from the family, this is a good time to begin.

For those fathers who have jobs that are "works of charity"...........let us pray they can meet the needs of those they serve.

Let us pray for our husbands to be the "light on the hill"..........to be strong in their faith, and a good example to all, especially their co-workers, and to their sons.


For those happy in their work, let us pray they may always be so!

Let us pray our husbands are able to pay their bills, pay off debt, avoid debt.

We also ask this for ourselves, as well.

Remember to take all of these intentions to our Dear Lord in the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday.

February: We pray for our husbands' physical health......and ours, too, under the patronage of The Holy Family & Our Lord's Passion

Dear God, please keep our husbands healthy in body as well as in spirit. They have so much responsibilty in caring for our families, and so need a healthy body with which to work, and provide, and play with us.

Please help them to do what they need to do to maintain, or regain, their health. Please guide us, their wives, in being of service to them, so they may reach their healthy goals.

And, if You prefer they must have crosses to carry in regards to their health, please give them the graces necessary to carry these crosses, for You. And, for the salvation of their own souls.

obtained favours from me. Now, since thou hast called me by that title so
pleasing to me, 'Queen of the Holy Rosary,' I can no longer refuse the favour
thou dost petition; for this name is most precious and dear to me. Make three
novenas, and thou shalt obtain all." 

     Once more the Queen of the Holy Rosary appeared to her and said, " Whoever
desires to obtain favours from me should make three novenas of the prayers of
the Rosary, and three novenas in thanksgiving." 

     The Novena consists of five decades of the Rosary each day for twenty-seven days
in petition; then immediately five decades each day for twenty-seven days in
thanksgiving, whether or not the request has been granted. The meditations vary
from day to day. On the first day meditate on the Joyful Mysteries; on the
second day the Sorrowful Mysteries; on the third day the Glorious Mysteries; on
the fourth day meditate again on the Joyful Mysteries; and so on throughout the
fifty-four days.

     For those of you in unhappy marriages, or feeling desperate.......perhaps
for a conversion of a dh....or for a wayward child........this is a VERY efficacious prayer................the graces just abound!  Many times in ways you might least expect it.  Keep in mind that many people I know sometimes feel like things get worse when they start the Rosary novena....before they get better......we think it must be the Devil wanting to interfere with our prayers!

      PLEASE consider joining us if you are feeling low.

     We will offer it up for all of those on the happyisthehusband list, those reading this blog and others we know, for our vocations, our husbands and our marriages...............and our offspring!!

     I know that many often feel bad if they forget to pray their rosary once starting the novena................here are my thoughts:

      Just ask for the graces to remember to pray it every day...................the grace to pick yourself up and just join in when you DO remember. I ask my guardian angel to pray it with me, to remind
me........and, to pray it for me, if I should forget.  And, if you do forget, those of us who do remember, have you covered......just jump back in!  If I only forget one day, I sometimes try to make it up over the next day or so.

      There are graces available to you from every rosary you DO say.....is so worth it.
     You can use an audio version of the rosary to help keep you focused.  I have downloaded these from The Rosary Army to listen to on my iPhone.  You can listen on your computer, your iPod or save to a CD.  I use it when I work or drive if it looks like I will have trouble finding a time to stop and pray at home.

Yesterday, I introduced the idea of praying themes for a year of praying for our husbands.  Today I bring the theme of January to you.......


January: Pray for our husbands' spiritual health......and ours, too
under the patronage of the Holy Name of Jesus


Dear God, please bring our husbands to the Sacraments frequently. If
our husbands are away from the sacraments, please bring them back. If our
husbands are not yet Catholic, please call them to Your church.


Please help us, as their wives, to do what You will have us do, to aid our
men,on their spiritual journey. To help them to save their souls, to be with You
forever in heaven.


Please help us to say what needs to be said. Please help us to be silent when
necessary. Please help us to lead by example.


Please help us to pray more often together.


We beg for these intentions, in honor of the Holy Name of Jesus.


Remember to take all of these intentions to our Dear Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament on Sunday.

A Year of Prayers for our Husbands and Ourselves

     I am not sure that I can actually do this on TUAR, but I can try.  On my email list Happy is the Husband, which I wrote about yesterday, I have a year long plan of prayers for each month. I thought I would share about it on the blog and then try to post in the first week of each month, the prayer theme for that particular month.

      What am I talking about???  Well, you can read below, a post that I wrote for the email list, quite a few years back.  And then later today or tomorrow, I will post the theme for January.  It is all ready to go!

Originally written in 2006:

I am usually awake too early, every morning (hormonal issues, I guess
:/)......and my thoughts are usually just below the waking level, and often seem
inspired by the Holy Ghost...........almost like the thoughts are INFUSED into
my mind, rather than me purposely thinking the thoughts...........this is has
been going on for years, actually. I just wish I always remembered the
thoughts. In fact, I often do forget them, till something reminds me later that
day.


So, Friday morning, I was inspired with the following idea:


Kind of like how Holy Mother Church provides us with a special focus for prayer
and devotion each month, like the Precious Blood in July, Sacred Heart in June,
Holy Rosary in October, Holy Souls in Nov...............I was thinking, or,
GIVEN :) the thought, that we could apply this to our email group. Each month
could be a special prayer focus for us, for our husbands. It could keep us
always thinking about praying for them. And, of course, if we do it as a group,
our graces and prayer power would be multiplied. I always like that! Great
visualization!


I could send an email every Friday night, when I remember (hormones again,
messing with my memory :})......so, that you would find it in your email boxes
on Saturday...........to remind you to take the prayers & intentions to Our Lord
in the Blessed Sacrament on Sundays.

under the patronage of the Immaculate Heart of Mary


September: Pray for our marriage
under the patronage of our Sorrowful Mother & the Holy Angels


October: Pray for his own private intentions, whatever they may be........and
for our own
under the patronage of Our Blessed Mother & her Holy Rosary


November: Pray for our husbands...........a happy and holy death........and for
our own
under the patronage of the Holy Souls in Purgatory


December: Pray for our husbands' future............and our own
under the patronage of the most Holy and Divine Infant & His Mother's Immaculate
Conception


no huge commitment on our parts...............and, having the opportunity to
pray for others (our husbands)............helps us to become more
holy..........we cannot but become closer to God, just by talking to him more
frequently. I think you will find an improvement in your own spiritual life,
just by partaking in this opportunity.


We are so blessed to be here, together, praying. I find it an incredible, and
awe-inspiring privilege. And, I give all thanks to God. He is amazing in His
graciousness!
